This pattern is simple and anyone can do it! Even if you've never made amigurumi before. Wait a minute, amigur..what?!
Amigurumi is just a fancy Japanese word for knitted or crocheted stuffed animals. A complicated-sounding word for an adorable toy that you can make at home!
The pattern uses the magic circle/ring, single crochet, and half-double crochet, including increases (inc) and decreases (dec). Easy peasy! And if you need a reminder for how to make a half-double crochet, or increase/decrease, check the "Notes" section for links to my video tutorials.
🧶 Materials
- Approximately 1 skein of #4/worsted weight yarn (in white); I also used some red and black for hat & scarf, and facial details.
- G-6 / 4-mm hook
- FiberFil stuffing
- Two small buttons
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Regular sewing needle
- Thread
📏 Finished size
This polar bear measures approximately 14" tall in a seated position.
⭐ Notes
- All instructions, abbreviations, and materials in this pattern are given in US terminology.
- For this project, we will work "in-the-round," meaning that you will not slip stitch at the end of each row, but will continue working continuously around.
- For a reminder of how to do the half-double crochet, watch the Lesson 2 video in my Learn to Crochet series.
- For a reminder of how to do a decrease (dec), watch my crochet pumpkin video, starting at 7:35, for instruction. Keep in mind, however, that the decrease instruction in that video is for single crochet.
